The OpenGLEAN project is considering numerous extensions to the API. Some we are committed to, some are only in proposal or thought form. Some are at a stage of of experimental implementation. The experimental features are generally described in the proposals, and are only minimally documented here.

Because gleandev is a new project, and is taking over and modifying some of the support from the core OpenGLEAN library, the whole gleandev library should be seen as experimental at this point. As it reaches a more stable point, however, the gleandev "Experimental Features" section may become non-empty.

The OpenGLEAN project would welcome developers who wish to contribute work under the MIT license for various input devices. gleandev could use support for:

• Tablets.
• Spaceballs.
• Dials-and-buttons boxes.
• Innovative devices (gleandev is mostly focused on input devices that track physical activity and mice and keyboards are already covered by the OpenGLEAN core...but there is room to explore still).
• A generalized "button" and "gradient" type of input from which one could abstract keyboards as arrays of buttons and tablets as combinations of gradients and buttons---this requires both design and implementation thought.

For the right degree of inspiration and capability, gleandev may be spun off as a separate project under separate leadership. Unless and until device input migrates more towards window-based input (event driven, and following the window-system user-input focus), the device support in gleandev will probably remain forever external to OpenGLEAN's core.
